The UN Sustainable Development Goals

At the foundation of ROCKWOOL Group’s initiatives are the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have committed to 10 out of 17 SDGs, and we improve and measure our performance against them, using them as a compass to steer our ambitions within sustainability.

We take an abundant natural resource and transform it into products that help meet global challenges. These challenges are captured by the SDGs, which call for businesses, governments and civil society to work together to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

We began using the SDGs as a strategic framework in 2016, choosing to pursue the goals that are most aligned with our business competencies and where we can have the greatest impact.

How do we know we’re making a difference?

We measure the impact of our products on society where feasible. For several years, we’ve tracked the net positive carbon impact of our offering. For example, throughout the lifetime of its use, the building insulation we sold in 2020 will save 100 times the energy consumed and carbon emitted during its production. This positive impact increases to saving on average more than 5000 times the energy consumed and carbon emitted when using technical insulation for large-scale industrial applications.
