ROCKWOOL’s ProRox® with CR‑Tech™ combines an embedded corrosion inhibitor with hydrophobic WR‑Tech™ to provide durable protection against corrosion under insulation. BIC Magazine summarizes how independent ASTM G189 testing shows significantly lower corrosion rates and extended asset life.
While many insulation solutions claim to protect industrial piping from CUI, more can be discovered relating to their ability to deliver long-term CUI protection in harsh operating conditions.
In thier review, BIC Magazine explores how ROCKWOOL’s ProRox® stone wool insulation with CR-Tech™ (Corrosion Resistant Technology) helps combat CUI, even in hot, humid environments like the U.S. Gulf Coast.
How does it work? The technology embeds a corrosion inhibitor directly into the insulation, activating in the presence of moisture to shield steel surfaces and buffer water pH. Working in conjunction with ROCKWOOL’s hydrophobic WR-Tech™, the system provides both water repellency and corrosion resistance.
Putting ProRox with CR-Tech through its paces
ROCKWOOL commissioned third-party tests to evaluate the durability of the inhibitor-treated stone wool insulation in various scenarios. This included independent testing to the ASTM G189 industry standard, which was modified to simulate 15 years of rainfall exposure. Test results showed that ProRox® with CR-Tech™ achieved significantly lower corrosion rates and five times better CUI protection than other hydrophobic insulation materials, such as aerogel and perlite.
Ultimately, the results highlight how stone wool enhanced with corrosion inhibitors significantly improves resistance to CUI, even under prolonged water exposure and high-temperature conditions. The result? Extended asset life and minimal maintenance costs for industrial facilities.
