A demanding environment

LNG processing, handling, storage, and transportation is challenging, which is why it is vital to choose the right insulation solution for:

  • Acoustic control: reducing the significant noise created by compressor stations and gas pipelines, especially near residential areas
  • Thermal management: maintaining thermal integrity, prevent energy loss and boil-off, and ensure safe, stable, and efficient operations
  • CUI mitigation: minimising water and moisture ingress that can lead to hidden metal degradation, safety risks, and costly unplanned maintenance (especially when using corrosion inhibitors)
  • Fire safety: protecting critical infrastructure and personnel in high-risk LNG environments

Dependable acoustic control

The operation of compressors, pumps, and flare systems can generate significant noise levels that impact nearby residential communities.

Without proper insulation, this noise can lead to disturbances, health concerns, and resistance from local communities, which is why in many regions it is highly regulated.

Cold acoustics

Cold acoustics is for LNG applications operating at cryogenic temperatures. It uses a layered system consisting of a cold insulation base layer for structural integrity and thermal insulation, a middle vapor barrier to prevent moisture ingress and maintain insulation performance, and an outer layer of stone wool to provide additional acoustic attenuation and mechanical protection.

Hot acoustics

Hot acoustics insulation is designed to deliver both thermal and acoustic performance in high-temperature areas, such as near turbines or flare systems. It consists of multilayered systems that include high-temperature-resistant, sound-absorbing stone.

Exceptional thermal management

Our solutions are trusted for thermal efficiency in LNG applications due to their excellent thermal resistance, non-combustibility, and durability in extreme conditions.

Stone wool is highly effective in minimising heat loss, ensuring stable temperatures critical for LNG storage and transport. Additionally, our insulation maintains performance under vibration, moisture, and mechanical stress, making it ideal for the demanding environments of LNG facilities and offshore systems.

Rockassist is our advanced, user-friendly and free calculation tool, specifically developed to support thermal calculations in technical installations for energy, manufacturing, marine and offshore applications.

Proven CUI mitigation

ProRox® with WR-Tech™ and CR-Tech™ outperforms anything else on the market to combat CUI for LNG applications.

With ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation, you have absolute confidence in the effectiveness and durability of your LNG piping, equipment, and other critical assets. Our advanced water-repellency and corrosion inhibitor technologies significantly reduce water absorption while maintaining vapor permeability, giving you the most reliable insulation solution for CUI mitigation.

Reliable passive fire protection

Our solutions deliver robust passive fire protection for LNG applications by leveraging the natural fire-resistant properties of stone wool, which can withstand temperatures above 1000°C without melting or releasing toxic smoke.

This enables you to contain fire spread, protect structural integrity, and safeguard critical equipment in the event of a fire. This is an essential component in enhancing safety and meeting stringent fire safety regulations in LNG facilities.
